Band
Do you want to learn to play an instrument? Do you already play an instrument? If so, then band is the place for you! Our three levels of band focus on note and rhythm reading, instrument techniques, and listening skills. We play all different styles of music and work towards being the best we can be. This class also has access to field trips both inside and outside of school where we get to see professional musicians perform for us! School instruments may be available to students who need them. Come and join our music team! We'd love to have you!
Choir
Do you love to sing? Do you love to sing but are a little nervous about singing in front of other people? Do you want to learn to use your voice better? Then choir is for you! Shaw Heights offers 2 levels of choir, all of which focus on music reading and vocal technique. We sing all different kinds of music in lots of different styles and languages. This class also goes on field trips to sing with other choirs and advanced groups are eligible to compete in All-State Choir and other local competitions. Come join our music team. There's room for everyone!
Guitar
Guitar is a beginners' class with a focus on finger placement, strumming, sight-reading, understanding groove and chord placement. Students will learn to care for their instrument as well as tuning the guitar. From classic rock to current music, guitar class has something for everyone!
Musical Theatre
Musical theatre at Shaw Heights is a semester-long class open to 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. During each semester we learn how to read music, use our voices to be strong and confident singers and actors. We also learn many different types of movement, including pantomime and dance. This class may be taken multiple times and offers opportunities to grow and perfect your craft. This is the perfect class for you, whether you have acted before or have never set foot on a stage! All are welcome!
Orchestra
This is for any student who would like to play a string instrument: violin, viola, cello, string bass. This class has 3 levels of instruction and will teach note reading skills, beginning rhythms, instrument techniques, listening skills and music history. This class also has access to field trips both inside and outside of school where we get to see professional musicians perform for us! School instruments may be available to students who need them.
