Mx. Cummings (They/Them) - Art Teacher
Our visual arts program offers beginning and advanced art elective classes.
The Visual Arts program at Shaw is driven by the philosophy that the student is the artist, and the classroom is their studio.
- We investigate, explore, study, and practice what artists do.
- Students choose projects and practices that further their artistic goals.
- They are supported by exploring new techniques, methods and materials as well as deep looks at new artists.
- Opportunities to share our work and collaborations between artists happen often.
- Students get to express themselves and define what matters to them as artists.
- We curate pop-up art displays in the building and participate in the District Art Show.
- Many techniques and media are explored in the studio including: acrylic paint, cardboard construction, blacklight materials, collage, crafts, and other typical media like marker, oil pastel and watercolor.
