Welcome to Shaw Heights Middle School – 2025–2026 School Year

Hello Families,

Thank you for visiting Shaw Heights Middle School! Whether you're already part of our school community or exploring SHMS as a new option, we’re glad you’re here. We’re excited to welcome you to a new school year full of growth, opportunity, and success.

Exciting Renovation This Summer

We’re thrilled to share that our building is getting a full renovation this summer. With support from the district, Shaw Heights will soon have air conditioning, new flooring, brighter lighting, redesigned classrooms, and new windows. When students return in the fall, the school will feel fresh, modern, and built to support meaningful learning and connection.

Even though construction is underway, our team will continue working and preparing for the school year. If you have questions or need assistance, please reach out to us. Please note that our office will be closed for summer break from June 23 to July 13.

Keeping Students on Track This Summer

As we head into summer, we encourage families to help students stay engaged in learning. One of the best ways to do that is through regular reading. We recommend students read for 45 minutes each day to help them stay on track and maintain their skills for the fall. Visiting the library, setting a goal, and celebrating their reading progress can go a long way in keeping kids motivated.

We also ask families to set clear boundaries around technology. Collecting phones at night, setting daily screen time limits, and encouraging real-life social time with friends and family helps students recharge, focus, and stay healthy. These habits might be hard at first, but they make a lasting difference in students’ well-being.

At Shaw Heights, our mission is to help every student succeed. We believe every child has unique strengths and the ability to grow when supported and challenged. We are committed to helping students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. With care, consistency, and high expectations, we know our students can achieve great things.

Important Back-to-School Information

To support a smooth start to the school year, we’ve created an Information Packet with key details about SHMS. This includes the school calendar, school fees, supply lists, dress code, immunization information, and medication forms. Once you are registered, we will send you the full back-to-school information. 

What to Submit Before the First Day

Before school begins, we ask that families submit the following items, if they apply to you:  

• Proof of address if you’ve moved
• An updated immunization record or signed waiver (this is required for all 6th grade students — students will not be allowed to start school without this)
• Medication permission forms for any prescriptions, over-the-counter medications, or inhalers that will be used during the school day

Staying Connected

Strong communication between home and school is important to us. Please make sure we have your most up-to-date contact information, including email addresses, phone numbers, and emergency contacts. You can update this information anytime through the Campus Parent Portal.

Gracias por visitar Shaw Heights Middle School. Ya sea que ya formen parte de nuestra comunidad escolar o estén considerando unirse a nosotros, ¡nos alegra tenerlos aquí! Estamos emocionados por darles la bienvenida a un nuevo año lleno de crecimiento, oportunidades y éxito.

Renovación emocionante este verano

Nos complace compartir que nuestro edificio recibirá una renovación completa este verano. Con el apoyo del distrito, Shaw Heights tendrá aire acondicionado, nuevos pisos, mejor iluminación, aulas rediseñadas y ventanas nuevas. Cuando los estudiantes regresen en el otoño, la escuela se sentirá moderna, renovada y diseñada para inspirar el aprendizaje.

Aunque el edificio estará en remodelación, nuestro equipo seguirá trabajando y preparando todo para el nuevo año escolar. Si tienen preguntas o necesitan ayuda, pueden comunicarse con:

Mantener a los estudiantes en ritmo durante el verano

A medida que nos acercamos al verano, animamos a las familias a mantener a los estudiantes involucrados en su aprendizaje. Una excelente manera de hacerlo es a través de la lectura diaria. Recomendamos que los estudiantes lean 45 minutos al día para conservar sus habilidades y estar listos para el nuevo año. Visiten la biblioteca pública, establezcan una meta de lectura y celebren sus logros.

También pedimos a las familias que establezcan límites saludables en el uso de la tecnología. Recojan los teléfonos por la noche, establezcan horarios de uso, y promuevan tiempo cara a cara con familiares y amigos. Estos hábitos, aunque al principio puedan ser difíciles, ayudan a los estudiantes a descansar, concentrarse y desarrollarse de manera saludable.

Nuestra misión en SHMS

En Shaw Heights, nuestra misión es ayudar a cada estudiante a tener éxito. Creemos que todos los niños tienen talentos únicos y la capacidad de crecer cuando reciben apoyo y desafíos adecuados. Nos comprometemos a ayudar a nuestros estudiantes a prosperar académica, social y emocionalmente. Con cuidado, constancia y altas expectativas, sabemos que nuestros estudiantes pueden lograr grandes cosas.

Información importante para el inicio del año escolar

Para apoyar un buen comienzo del año escolar, hemos preparado un Paquete de Información con detalles clave sobre la vida escolar en SHMS. Este paquete incluye el calendario escolar, cuotas, lista de útiles, código de vestimenta, requisitos de vacunación y formularios de medicamentos.

Una vez que se hayan registrado, les enviaremos toda la información de regreso a clases. 

Documentos necesarios antes del primer día de clases

Antes de que comience el año escolar, solicitamos que nos entreguen los siguientes documentos, si aplican a su estudiante:

• Comprobante de domicilio si se han mudado
• Registro de vacunas actualizado o exención firmada (Requerido para todos los estudiantes de 6.º grado – no se permitirá iniciar clases sin este document)
• Formularios de autorización de medicamentos para cualquier medicamento que el estudiante necesite durante el horario escolar, incluyendo inhaladores y medicamentos de venta libre

Mantenerse en contacto

La comunicación entre la escuela y el hogar es muy importante para nosotros. Asegúrense de que tengamos su correo electrónico, número de teléfono y contactos de emergencia actualizados. Pueden hacer cambios en cualquier momento a través del Portal para Padres de Campus.
